Conservation Awareness and Capacity Building among Local Community |
CERC has initiated a program to facilitate active participation of stakeholders in efficient and sustainable management of the Vembanad wetlands, thrust has been given to awareness creation programs. This has been strategized through promoting collective decision making process providing updated information and building capacity to monitor resources and environmental quality. The ultimate aim of this approach is to sensitize the community to be responsible for their ways of resource use. The interventions primarily focus on enhancing the collective understanding of constitutional provisions and feasible management options for the sustainable development of the sectors such as agriculture, fisheries and tourism. ATREE actively collaborates with local self governments (panchayats), community groups and NGOs in this process.
